Winfield Designs — Johnathan & Jandellyn Ward (Greenbank, Washington)

Most of Johnathan and Jandellyn's unique home and garden art is created by welding handmade, cold-formed steel components. They create their pieces from new and recycled steel, which they cut, grind and form into components that they weld together.

They have been designing and building functional art for the home and garden on Whidbey Island, WA, since 1997, when Johnathan “started this adventure,” according to Jandellyn. She has always been a part of the process, but decided in 2004 that it was time for her to give up her day job and join him full time.

"As artists,” she says, "we strive to design and create functional art pieces for the home and garden."

Johnathan grew up with a family of artists. His dad, when John was young, made wooden toys and participated in an art festival circuit similar to what the Wards do now. Jandellyn grew up with a family of seamstresses (her mother and grandmother). She credits her mothers sewing process with teaching her a lot about designing and building works of art.

Below are just a few of the Winfield Design pieces we carry.

winfield words, magnets

Rusted flower magnets, carved steel on rusted steel word plaques. (The blue tinge on the left-hand plaques is a reflection on the steel. These plaques are the same hue as “Joy” and “Friends.” We’ll get a better photo up soon.)
