Michael Copeland (Alamogordo)

Unlimited possibility is the nucleus of my art. The untamed free association and synthesis unhampered by revered iconography. My work is abstract-symbolic chance, composite, androgynous, juxtaposition, recordings of what I see within/without, imagined parts and pieces of film from the universal odium.

This is my journey. My imagination is my gift. I try not to take it too seriously, don’t believe in my own publicity, take notes on changes in the weather, keep an open mind and rest in peace.

— Michael Copeland, BA

Michael works in two- and three-dimensional mixed media, watercolor, acrylic, oil, prismacolor and graphite on rag paper, masonite and canvas. Michael’s “abstracted” realism uses deep layers of color and line, struck by his sense of humor and subtle play.

He has been creating works of art for more than 40 years and was an art educator for 27 years.
