Galen Wales (Alamorgordo)

"I think I am one of those kind of people who refuse to or cannot 'grow up' in certain aspects of my life," Galen Wales says. "And I’m okay with that."

Although she loves working in a multitude of media (colored pencil, watercolors, acrylics, oil, pastel, clay, paper clay and papier-mâché), "I will have to admit my favorite is making UBz," she says. She explains that UBz are silly monsters, animals, or, what she calls, "unusual beasts" made out of upcycled sweaters. "Bringing UBz 'to life' has been the most fun I have ever had creating."

"My artwork is about making people happy,” she adds, “and making them and, especially myself, laugh.”

Galen has been teaching at Alamogordo High School since 1994, where she currently teaches all levels of sculpture courses, including AP Studio Art: 3D design.
